Hove Deep Sea Anglers Club has added two Whaly 380s to their fishing fleet. Delivered just before the weekend, they tested the boats on Saturday which were deemed 'great!'.
They plan to officially launch the boats during their forthcoming Family Fun Day (26th July) where they invite non-anglers from the club on short mackerel fishing trips.
Tim Fowle from the club explains "We have trips scheduled each weekend throughout the spring, summer and autumn months that these new boats can be used for, alongside the existing fleet. The Whalys are much lighter and will be easier to move around the beach during preparation and retrieval. We hope to increase the number of members fishing from boats over and above our current weekend schedule, especially during the week and evenings".
A multi-use open boat made of high-grade polyethylene, the 380 is an exciting addition to the Whaly range. It only reached UK shores in February this year. Designed in the same line as the 435/R, it offers a much drier ride, big inner space, reliability and resilience. Rated for up to 30hp and 8 persons (Cat D), it makes a great leisure or fishing boat. Hove's Whaly 380s are both Dutch Orange, a stand-out colour! The package included oars, seats for rowing thwarts and transom boxes.
"Being lighter to handle means we don't need such a big group of people present to handle the boats. The other appeal is that they are pretty much maintenance free" says Tim. Indeed, a quick hose down will suffice and the Polyethylene hulls are 100% colour-fast.
As for the bright orange scaring away fish? Well, a boat's colour doesn't affect how many fish you will catch! Fish will pick up movements, shadows and noise but not the colour of the boat.
