Quick Guide to Whaly Boat Rigging
From a simple oar set to full remote control, there are many rigging options to consider when looking at a Whaly boat. Our quick guide outlines key facts.
Basic (£)
The most basic option on the smaller boats (models 210 -370) is a simple set of oars. You may need a rowing bench.

Tiller controlled engine (££)
This option gives maximum space within the boat. The outboard engine is attached to the transom and the boat is controlled by steering with the engine. Throttle and gear controls are on the engine. The engine would normally be a manual start, where you have to pull a recoil starter, and the fuel tank maybe integral or remote. Typically this is suitable for engines up to 30hp as well as electric options.

Tiller controlled (electric start) engine (£££)
In the last few years tiller control, electric start engines have become more common. The engine has a button on the lower cowling that will start the engine (some engines offer power tilt too). A starter battery has to be incorporated. This setup is very similar to the preceding option but with easier start option and the luxury of 12v power on board for lighting, phone charging etc.

Full remote control (££££)
Steering wheel, remote engine controls and key start: this offers full control from a sitting position and involves fitting a steering console and a helm bench. Either a cable or hydraulic steering system has to be fitted as well as a full 12v electrical system. This all takes space within the boat, so you may need to consider one of the larger Whaly models (455-500R80).
