Boat decks can get slippery from rain, washing, spray, algae, fish slime or even sunscreen. A glossy, smooth painted finish looks fantastic but secure footing is essential for you and your crew. Slippery surfaces can lead to falls, spills, cuts, sprains, fractures, damaged equipment, even falling overboard - and the ensuing confidence knock.
Pre-made slip-resistant deck coating
International offers a pre-made paint solution, Interdeck slip-resistant coating: a matt finish with added non-slip granules. International Interdeck is a slip-resistant polyurethane deck paint consisting of fine mineral additive to create a hard-wearing, non-slip surface ideal for decks and other walked on surfaces. Interdeck is suitable for all substrates and can be applied straight from the tin with brush or roller. The coating's low-sheen finish prevents sunlight dazzle.
The colour range is limited to five - mostly neutral - choices: White, Squall Blue, Cream, Grey, Sand Beige. Nice... albeit safe and rather limiting.
Make your own anti-slip deck paint
Here's the good news: International's Toplac Plus range offers 23 appealing colours -multiple blues, greens, reds, whites, grey, black and beige shades - and all can be made into non-slip deck paint! Simply mix 1:1 with International Matting Additive and International Non-slip Additive (non-slip granules). This works with Super Gloss HS as well.
Simple application: sprinkle onto wet paint or add in prior to application. Its regular shape diminishes the tendency to collect dirt and has excellent non-slip properties.
